TARA SA LUZON!!

Luzon sits at the northern end of the Philippines, and is the country’s largest and most populous island. It’s known for its mountains, beaches and coral reefs, and is home to Manila, the national capital. Set on a deep bay with famed sunsets, the city has many Spanish-colonial landmarks, national memorials and monuments, a centuries-old Chinatown and a diversity of museums.

Here are the tourist spots that you may visit at Luzon:

MANILA – Manila is the capital city of the Philippines but is often regarded with mixed feelings. It’s a busy and hectic metropolis that is nothing like the relaxing beaches that are so sought-after in the Philippines. However, Manila is worth exploring for a day or two, especially for the historical Spanish-Colonial landmarks.

CORREGIDOR ISLAND – Off the coast of Manila, you will find Corregidor Island; a famous battle ground in WWII. The Japanese, Americans, and Filipino troops all fought and died here. Today, you can find a number of relics from the war as well as the skeleton of the fortress and military barracks. A guided tour of Corregidor Island is a must for any history buff.

HANGING COFFINS OF SAGADA – The town of Sagada has a very interesting burial tradition that has attracted plenty of curious visitors. Instead of burying their coffins in the earth, they suspend them to the sides of the cliffs where they hang forever. Some find it spooky, but the locals think of it as making sure that their loved ones are closer to heaven.

BATAD RICE TERRACES – Southeast Asia is famous for its rice terraces and the Batad Rice Terraces in Luzon are a favourite. Sprawling green terraces stretch through the hills and valleys beside a small, local village. It’s a great area for hiking and, for an authentic experience, visitors can stay with a local family for a homestay.

MOUNT ISAROG NATIONAL PARK – This national park is great for hiking, biking, exploring, and spotting wildlife. There are hot springs, waterfalls, rice terraces, rainforests and mountains all encompassed in this beautiful area. Keep an eye out for the Isarog shrew rat, Isarog cloud frog, and Isarog forest skink; all of which can only be found in this area.

TAAL VOLCANO – Taal Volcano, located in Tagatay, is a unique volcano. It sits in the middle of a lake and inside of the mouth of the volcano is another small lake with an island. Taal Volcano is quite active as well and can still be seen puffing smoke.

PAGUDPUD – This popular beach town is a favourite escape in Luzon. It can be reached by bus (12 hours from Manila) or by flying into Laoag Airport. Expect beautiful beaches with plenty of restaurants lining them. It’s a great spot for a beach break. Pagudpud is considered one of the best beaches in Philippines.

MANGALAWA ISLAND – Those looking for a luxury break should head to Magalawa Island, home to only one resort: The Armada Resort. Top class service and a very limited number of guests make it the ideal place for a quiet and secluded break while still being able to enjoy the beauty of the Philippines.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
